The country that you encounter after driving through Germany. Poland is a big country but the location is reasonably close to the German border, so favorable for the guests from the Netherlands.
Are you driving using navigation?
Although most people nowadays use navigation, it is a good idea to roughly plan the route. The German motorways consist largely of road works and this can considerably slow down your journey. Roughly the route via Hanover / Berlin & Poznan is easy to do in a day's drive (about 10 hours on average).
Important regulations Germany and Poland
In both Germany and Poland there are slightly different traffic regulations than in the Netherlands, below a number of important rules! In both countries a warning triangle and safety pouches for the number of persons is mandatory to have, in Poland you must officially also have a fire extinguisher (small one).
For some time, police have been checked at every border crossing. so do not risk taking illegal things across the border because you do not want problems with both the German and Polish police;).
Poland
Toll:
In Poland you pay highway toll on some stretches. This can be done with a credit card or Cash. Cash means using Polish Zloty. Often you can also pay the toll in euros, but converted you pay more. So make sure you always have some zloty in your pocket if you go before or after the wedding. At many petrol stations and at the border crossings exchange offices are there to exchance euros for zloty.
Speed:
Motorways have a maximum speed of 140km / hour, unless stated otherwise. On provincial roads you can go 90km / h (please note that many roads are also used by bicycle and pedestrians). It is not always well indicated how fast you are allowed to drive in urban areas (& villages), from 06: 00-23: 00 you can drive 50 km / hour unless otherwise indicated, between 23: 00-06: 00 you can 60km / hours.
In poland it is mandatory to use your lights 24/7, even though it is 30 degrees outside and the sun is shining at its hardest. If you forget this, the fellow road users will always give you light signals to alert you. So you see people giving you light signals, it can mean that you have your lights off or that there is a police control a bit further on ;)
In Poland, strict controls are being carried out on the use of alcohol in traffic, partly due to the high number of fatalities in the past. Alcohol control is now a standard procedure when you put aside.
