A Polish Wedding is surely something different than a Dutch Wedding.
Our wedding will start in church on Saturday at 16:00. After the ceremony in church we will drive to the party venue by car from 17:30 the party will erupt.
On the way from the church - in the company of the witnesses - the car with a young couple can encounter various obstacles, the so-called "bramka" (gates). For example, the car can be forced by "bandits" to stop to get a ransom ... Usually a bottle of alcoholic drink, given by the male witness.
Before the bride and groom enter the reception room, they are greeted with bread and salt and 2 glasses of vodka. (It may also be a glass of vodka and a glass of water - another fortune prediction. The bride chooses what she wants (if it is filled with vodka, she will be dominant in marriage) Bread and salt is a very old Slavic tradition with which the beloved guests were welcomed in. At a wedding bread and salt symbolize prosperity, sustainability and happiness.Then the young couple drink the glasses, then they throw the empty glass piece on the floor - shards bring good luck!
Although it starts very quietly with dinner around 6pm, it will change quite quickly after dinner to a festive intention with probably some Polish traditional games.
Poland is quite traditional when it comes to weddings. A wedding is not a wedding if it does not meet 4 important rules;
Furthermore, it is still best to just go for it! Just like ourselves;)
